Barn Owls

Welcome to Barn Owls!

Welcome to the Barn Owls Year 1/2 class. Mrs Brereton is the class teacher, and we also have Mrs Humpherston as our teaching assistant to help us with our learning.

In Barn Owls class we have daily phonics, literacy and maths sessions and children are actively encouraged to practice the skills they are learning at home by reading with family or by engaging with homework. Participating in home learning is rewarded with Class Dojo points, stickers and a dip in the treat basket at the end of term!

We have 6 half-termly topics this year:

  • Let's Make a Zoo in Billinghay
  • Why do we Celebrate Bonfire Night?
  • What Materials do we Need to Build a House?
  • Where are Houses being Built in Billinghay?
  • Are Trees Plants?
  • Transport: How have we changed how we get around?

The children have enjoyed a trip to Lincolnshire Wildlife Park to learn about exotic animals and their habitats already this year and we have some exciting opportunities to get out about about to learn other things!

Mrs Brereton

I am in my second year of teaching, but many of the children will be familiar with me after 2 years supporting learning in Kingfisher class and one year of teaching Year 4/5 Penguins with Mrs Pool while I worked towards my Qualified Teacher Status..

I love teaching phonics and early reading/ writing, and I also enjoy having the opportunity to allow children to continue to learn through play! I make sure to give the children the opportunity to expand on their learning and enjoy replicating their learning through play along-side formal teaching methods.

When not in school, I am kept busy with four children of my own. We enjoy gardening, walking and planning adventures together. We have a 2 year old Sprocker Spaniel called Cooper, so we can often be found walking him on a beach or through the fields around our home.
